Sculpture Walk, Reception for the 22nd Annual Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition	Word	44k	7 Jul 2008
For release July 7, 2008. Join An Appalachian Summer Festival for the annual Sculpture Walk and announcement of the winner of the 22nd Annual Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition. Nine artists from throughout the United States have been selected as finalists for this jurored competition. This year's juror-led Sculpture Walk starts at 10am, Saturday, July 26, at the Catherine J. Smith Gallery, located in the lobby of Appalachian State University's Farthing Auditorium. A reception will immediately follow. The color exhibition catalog will be unveiled and the winning artist announced.

The eyes of the world are focused on China, a country rising to meet the needs of its people after a devastating earthquake, and one inviting the world to enjoy its culture while viewing the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. Those who visit the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts (TCVA) at Appalachian State University do not have to travel to experience Chinese culture. Dancing with the Dragon Contemporary Art from Beijing opens July 11, with an evening reception. The exhibit, which grew out of a new partnership in the visual arts between TCVA and colleagues within China explores contemporary work being created in China. The center also established an art and education exchange with the newly opened Shanghai Institute for Visual Arts (SIVA).

Those who studied or teach at Appalachian State University are featured in the first exhibitions of 2008 at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. But the fun doesn't stop there. Local artists' works in late spring, an amazing private collection, two exhibitions from Louisiana throughout the summer and a capstone exhibition from Beijing, China, complete the full TCVA Spring & Summer 2008 Exhibitions season.

The event also celebrates the continuing exhibitions IN Black & White: Louisiana's Retreating Coast and Communities: Works from LUMCON's Permanent Collection, and Capturing a Transient World: A Contemporary Look at Louisiana.
